musicthing is in the process of securing venture capital funding. But we are also seeking donations of $1 from other people like us who want to help realize our vision of a new music company that treats its artists fairly while making their music available for free.

The reason the RIAA and the major record labels are able to get away with things like lawsuits against customers and squashing internet radio out of existence is because they have massive quantities of cash at their disposal, cash which (ironically) all of us have given them by overpaying for music for most of the 20th century.

You probably have $1 in your pocket. By itself that $1 won't even buy you a cup of coffee. But add it to the $1 in the pocket of everyone else who has ever downloaded a song from a file sharing network and it literally adds up to tens of millions of dollars! Collectively we are a multi-million dollar force to be reckoned with! We simply need to organize our financial resources and level the playing field. The major record labels count on our fragmentation. Why don't we disappoint them?

So consider donating $1 to musicthing. Not $10 or $100, just $1. You won't miss it. And that $1 can change everything.
